New Farm Produce Ltd is located near Lichfield in Staffordshire and was founded in 1960 as a mixed farm of arable and livestock. Fruit growing was started by Ron McGuffie as a Pick Your Own venture in the early 1970's.

Such was the success more acres were planted to meet demand as PYO proved to be very popular. During the eighties demand increased for ready picked fruit, as this increased New Farm started serving local outlets and other markets and so in 1987, began to serve J Sainsbury with strawberries and raspberries which they continue to do so today.

Asparagus production started in 1985 initially as a complementary crop; starting earlier than strawberries it offered an opportunity to extend the harvest season with a speciality crop. Sales were initially through the Farm Shop along with independent outlets. The Company started supplying J Sainsbury in 2000 and around this time they developed new growing techniques using protected cropping systems to improve quality and presentation of the crop.

More recent developments include the establishment of a Cherry orchard with a range of varieties; production is sold to supermarkets and through our Farm Shop.

All our production is chilled and packed at New Farm in our purpose built facilities constructed in 2001 with further expansion in 2005 to include a dedicated facility for Asparagus. The Company has a fleet of their own refrigerated trucks to bring produce in from the fields and assist our contract hauliers with deliveries to depot when required.

The present owners and Directors are brothers, David and Stephen McGuffie; they are the third generation of the family which began farming at New Farm in 1960. Now joined by Paul, Stephen's son, succession with a fourth generation family member is in place. Under their guidance the business has become focussed on targeted agricultural market sectors; Strawberries and Raspberries are the largest outputs followed by Asparagus, Cherries and Blueberries. The Company has three production sites all within a six mile radius of the main farm.

The strategy behind their success has always been to investigate trial and develop new methods at every level of the production process.

David studied Agriculture at Harper Adams University gaining an HND in Agriculture and has over 35 years of experience in Agricultural environments.

Stephen studied Agricultural Engineering and later followed this with Transport Engineering. He holds memberships of: Institute of Road Transport Engineers, Institute of the Motor Industry, Society of Operations Engineers. Stephen also sat on the HDC Soft Fruit Panel for 7 years, an evidence-based levy board with a key role in commissioning Research and Development projects on behalf of the industry. He has more than 30 years' experience of Soft Fruit Production.

Paul studied Agricultural Business and Marketing at Harper Adams University followed by a Post Graduate course in Rural Enterprise and Land Management. He now has a key role in the business as Operations Manager.

Our business employs many other key people to ensure we deliver service and quality to our customers, without which we could not achieve success.

We have our own refrigerated trucks to deliver direct to the customer's distribution depot or local market.
